Rashida Tlaib is an American politician of Palestinian descent who in 2018 became one of the first two Muslim women elected to the United States Congress and the first Palestinian American woman to serve there. Born in Detroit to working-class immigrant parents from the West Bank village of Beit Ur al-Fauqa, she grew up the eldest of fourteen children and trained as a lawyer before entering public life.
